Last year we spent a month in Vietnam. These pictures are from a village in the north called Bac Ha, and their Sunday Market. The clothing that the women wear in the north is absolutely amazing to look at, it is an explosion of colour and madness, with several different techniques in one garment. The dresses and robes that they wear takes weeks to make, and the detail work is just mind blowing. I wish I could have brought a whole suitcase filled with these dresses, scarfs and baby carriers with me back home, but as a backpacker with a teeny-tiny budget it was not possible. I would love to go back one day, Vietnam is wonderful.

Uppsala Cathedral.

During a trip to my hometown in Sweden we had a look at the old Cathedral. It dates back to the late 13th century and at a height of 118.7 m is the tallest church building in Scandinavia. Amazing textiles, instruments, lights and spooky tombs containing dead kings from the 15th century.

More reverse appliqué. I love this technique, using different materials and merge them together to create something absolutely mental. I also find it very meditative, cutting away, revealing different colours and shapes. These fabrics (photos above) will be used for the making of a jacket and a trouser leg, but I would not mind having a really big one on my wall.

Hackney made my day

It is easy to get creative in Hackney. There is so much colour and smells, and such a mixture of loud people, crazy people, fashion people, street preachers, street fighters, street style people, big ladies, bag ladies, skinny ladies, rich people, poor people, models, photographers, designers, struggling people, successful people. This poster with the meat is the advertisement for a supermarket I go past every morning, I think it's brilliant. There is inspiration everywhere you look. This is where it's at, and it's easy to see why.

Tomorrow will be the start of many days dedicated to Appliqué. I realise now how much I miss having blisters on my thumb, seeing cut out bits of fabric when I close my eyes and hearing the sewing machine when I go to sleep.

And, I've missed the studio, Dalston coffee, and of course, Fabulous Leutton Postle!

I am excited!

This is truly exciting. This blog-thing, believe it or not, is completely new to me. I have never had one or read one. Until now. Did some (very easy) research and found out that there is thousands of ways to keep a blog running. See, I had the idea that blogging was a way of people to tell a lot of other people very private stuff - and a lot of them do, but! I also found out you can be blogging without even writing a thing, or very few things, which is more of what I'd like to do. I have therefore decided to take this blog of mine on a test run and make it into a display window of my inspiration and creativity, for those who are interested...
